They get one star because they at least seem to hold the teachings of the church. Basically a mainline Protestant church space with a little Catholic sprinkled in. With the exception of the crucifix nothing in the space evokes reverence or transcendence. Built in 2002 and may as well be a ski lodge. A shameful waste of an opportunity. The Mass was valid, but illicit. The priest ad-libbed and innovated throughout, providing commentary whenever he felt like it, leading a song of his own before the prayers of the faithful, and changing up the rubric whenever it suited him - proving that the Novus Ordo, when celebrated like this, becomes “The Father [Name] Show” rather than the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Distracting, self-referential, inauthentic, and cringe-inducing. Median age of the parish looked to be about 75. Lots of empty pews. Maybe four young families, and only two with dads present. Father asked the congregation to say “yes” or “no” to his rhetorical questions and demanded louder “Amens”, as if the depth of your faith depended upon the volume of your voice. Childish. This is what the Mass post Vatican II has come to be in so many places, and what has caused a backlash of radical traditionalism. One can almost understand why. Please…please…consider celebrating the Mass as it should be rather than what the “spirit” of VII has turned it into. If not, this and many other parishes will simply gray out and close. A pity.
