This was such an interesting visit. There is a dress code. No tank tops etc. The gentleman in the Welcome center was so knowledgeable. This Shrine is run 100% on donations.

We always love visiting the Shrine. We always leave with our hearts filled with the Holy Spirit. Wonderful history whether you believe in the apparitions or not. It needs a lot of work- all volunteers. Would be nice if someone with some sort of wealth could help bring it back to life.

I wouldn't even give it a one rating. Maybe they were not officially open when we went, but checking out the gift shop signs there was nothing that said they were closed for the season. Just regular gift shop hours, and although we were there at those times, the place was deserted. Except, of course, for an abundance, I do mean abundance of mosquitoes that assaulted us as soon as we got out of the car. I have never seen that many mosquitoes since I used to fish as a young girl, (70 now). Needless to say, we could not enjoy at all looking at the beautiful statues or reading about them. A wasted trip. And just as we were leaving, a car with Florida plates parked. They got out of the car, and right back into it. Smarter than us, trying to actual enjoy the place. We won't make the drive back.

Came when the info center was closed. The signs say to wear modest clothing, and I tend to agree if only for the astounding masses of mosquitos present.

Louis Heitzman was my grandfather. Show a little respect. I helped him , with many others build this Shrine. Thank You 👍 …

We visited many time with a group of 10 drove 4 hours from Chicago, we always visit the place and enjoyed it, felt the power of Holy Spirit there. We’re planing to visit next weekend May 3rd. We prayed for our youth, for peace in our homes, also we visit to ask our blessed Mother to protect us, specially our children in Jesus Lord’s name Amen

does anyone know the story of this place? the person who built it was completely insane and there was a shootout in the 50s when the catholic church ordered it shut down.

We always stopped to visit this shrine. We were disappointed when it closed.

We visited today July 8, 2026, for the first time. We appreciate the volunteers efforts in keeping up the grounds! It’s a large but very well tended space with newly planted zinnias along the pathway. The history is most amazing and inspiring! After spending time in prayer and reflection, I left with such a strong sense of peace. Thank you to those who care for this place.
