Details

The Carmelite Sisters at Holy Name of Mary Monastery provide a serene environment for prayer and spiritual reflection. As a cloistered community, the nuns live in silence and devotion, chanting the Liturgy of the Hours throughout the day. Visitors are welcome to attend the 7am Mass, where the light of the morning sun filters through the eastern windows, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere. The campus gates close at 4:30pm daily, and visitors are encouraged to arrive early on Carmelite Saint feast days or the Transfiguration to secure a space in the pew, as many secular Carmelites may be present. On the Feast of St. Therese of Lisieux, there is a special blessing and distribution of roses after Mass.

Peaceful place for prayer. Mass is at 7am and the Sisters chant the Liturgy of the Hours at other times of the day. Sometimes they have Eucharistic Adoration open to the public as well. The gates of their campus normally close at 4:30pm every day. These Sisters are cloistered and praying for you! If you decide to go to Mass on a Carmelite Saint feast day or on the Transfiguration, get there early if you would like a space in the pew - many secular Carmelites will be there that day. On Feast of St. Therese of Lisieux there is a special blessing and distribution of roses after Mass. Outside of the Church they have prayer cards and religious items for sale and there is a place to give donations and write prayer intentions.

This beautiful monastery set up on the hill is reminiscent of a Romanesque church. It is lit in the evening and provides an inspiring sight. Those that reside here do not speak so complete silence is required. I didn't think it was open to the public but was told visitors were allowed. I found a quiet spot to get away from the stress of life and sit in silence in a gorgeous setting.

It is very difficult to explain the peaceful feeling one has when attending daily mass. There is just something spiritual when attending mass at 7am and the sun is finding it’s way through the eastern windows. One has to experience it to understand it.
