If you are looking for a gospel centered church focused on the mission of spreading and sharing the gospel, this is great place to be. Though it is not a large church, the preaching is very easy to understand, and the ability to get …

This church is awesome. The pastor is an incredible teacher and an even better leader who lives out the gospel in his own life. The people in the church love Jesus and desire to make his message known. They have a very biblical approach to ministry in that they have missional community groups which intentionally live and do life in different areas (some not so nice). You will not leave that church without hearing the gospel message either. It does have a more casual feel to it, but I wouldn't call it a concert feel either as some reviewers said. It is worth going to visit and then introducing yourself to any of the pastors there.

This church family has drawn us into a deeper relationship with Christ and a deeper relationship and sense of purpose with the community around us. Sunday morning teaching and worship are just one small part of the Christian walk, and this church has emphasized more than any other I have ever attended that we do not "go" to church, we ARE the church. That said, we have gifted pastors and worship leaders who teach us so well and fill us up spiritually every week.

Years after moving away from this area, I consistently listen to sermons from this church. Pastor Scott and the other preachers do a fantastic job teaching the scriptures in a way that is locally applicable for their listeners. Some have criticized the people of this church as being impersonal to first-time visitors, which I would say is fair; however, I would add that I have never been to another local church that cares more about consistently encouraging its members toward impacting their community with the gospel. I would also add that the people of this church have made me feel more like family than any other church community I've been a part of. I would recommend membership to this church to any local Hampton Roads resident.

A friend and I were planning a weekend trip to Chesapeake. A few weeks before going, I found the Redemption church online and liked what I read on their site but I had a few questions for them. I am trying to find a good Bible-teaching church for some friends who live in the area. Redemption Church did not return my email, but we decided to visit them anyway. The message was amazing about who is our king of kings??? But, and it's a big but...for being in the south, the people were NOT friendly at all, except a sweet couple who sat behind us and it was because we first extended our hellos to them. It is a small church so I believe it was obvious we were visitors. They did not even mention welcoming any visitors. At the beginning of the service (or gathering as they call it - which I think sounds like a cult).. they bragged about being the church.. but we left there feeling as tho their concept of the church is skewed.

I wanted to like this church, but people were showing no respect to God. People were coming and going, changing seats, using IPods, Iphones , going out for coffee-and not paying attention to the sermon. I felt like I was at a concert. If that is your type of worship, you will like it there.

The redemption family has helped my wife and I really understand what it means to be the church and to not just attend church. We are thankful to Jesus for how he is using the redemption family and leadership to show us everyday who he is and how much he truly loves us.
