Formation bought my wedding venue which was priorly known as Woodhaven pointe. When they bought out Woodhaven they also assumed all of their contracts, while I understand they were no longer a “venue” I was optimistic after first meeting with them. However, I think that some expectations were miscommunicated between both parties(myself and formation). When I had initially booked with Woodhaven I had asked about exit and cleanup, they had told me that we just needed to remove the things that we had brought and make sure trash was inside the trash cans made available within the event space and that their cleanup crew would handle the rest. Additionally Woodhaven had told me that the “guest time allotment” was until 10 pm and that the few family members we had to do the cleanup would be able to stay and clean for 30 minutes after 10 pm, but all other guests would need to exit and leave the space. Fast forward to wedding day, as 9 pm rolls around the “event coordinator” for formation comes up to me on the dance floor and tells me that we need to start winding down and preparing to leave, I am thinking that we still have a whole hour of booked time for guests in the event space. Ten minutes later she again comes up to me and tells me it is time to have guests leave. At this point I felt like we were no longer welcomed and needed to leave quickly so I inform everyone to begin exiting. After my husband and I left my family stayed to clean up and round up the remainder of our belongings. My mother was directing this. The event coordinator and staff told my mom “you have 25 minutes to get out.” They then followed her around while she was directing people and getting things cleaned. She said the staff was very rude and while she was getting things organized to be taken to cars the staff continually moved our belongings to different places while she was attempting to streamline the cleanup. They then informed her that she needed to take all of the trashes out to the dumpster(our previous understanding with Woodhaven was that their cleaning crew would take the trashes out). They also required us to replace every single garbage liner. Our guests almost exclusively were only in the downstairs space but the staff informed my mom that she needed to take out the upstairs trash bags as well which were behind the desk and in a side room that was not utilized. Those trashes contained staff paperwork and an Arby’s leftovers bag(the staffs dinner). Overall the space was very nice and we did have a good reception but my family left feeling harassed and blindsided by the staff not explaining their expectations to us prior to the event day at all. I would not recommend this as an event venue for weddings under the new owners and management.

God has used Formation as a place for deep healing in several areas of my life. Over the years, this community has remained a safe space of growth and a source of joy through some of the messiest seasons. It’s a blessing to have a community that values this kind of togetherness in all aspects of life.

Being at Formation has allowed God to meet me where I am and grow my relationship from there. It has helped me focus and reflect on the small daily blessings God gives me, knowing that He who has been faithful in the past will be faithful in the future.

Formation has been a refuge for my faith in times of uncertainty. Our church encourages that our questions are something we set before God and that he takes delight in answering, ultimately creating a deeper relationship with Him.

I am so grateful for this church home! If you are looking for a welcoming, inclusive, Bible-based church filled with genuinely caring people and stellar pastors who know how to meet people right where they are, speak into current events (i.e., not turning a blind eye to difficulties like international wars and racism, but instead working toward connection and healing and inclusivity), and foster community and connection, this is the place to be. I moved to Utah from out of state and struggled to find the right church for me, but when I started coming here, I knew this was home. Pastor Ryan even incorporates really powerful engaged experiences in church, like introducing spiritual exercises, like the prayer of examen and lectio divina. These mindful techniques have helped me greatly in fostering a deeper and more intentional relationship with God. He even invites engagement and reflection by often putting a cell phone number on the screen during his sermons so people can anonymously text their questions, and he responds as many as he can get to at the end of the sermon. I often get as much out of those questions as I do even the sermon itself! I also think that speaks to his genuine nature - he truly wants each person who comes to feel heard and uses scripture to speak to their needs. I'm very grateful for this church! And if you come, I'll save you a seat :)
