The Church of San Diego de Alcalá was originally a Jesuit mission founded by Father Francisco Eusebio Kino, later taken over by the Franciscans, who gave it its current form. This church is the only parish in the town of Pitiquito, Sonora, where celebrations, Eucharistic services, weddings, baptisms, and other sacraments are offered. It features an atrium, ample parking, and inside, several paintings that were used for evangelization during that era and depict certain historical events. It is a very beautiful church, with a bell tower, painted entirely white, the characteristic color of Franciscan missions. Its patron saint's feast day is November 13th.

I had never visited Pitiquito before, and the whole town is beautiful, clean, and full of friendly people. When you visit the church, you realize it's practically a reflection of its people; it's not very big, but it's a welcoming place. If you visit the municipality, it's a must-see, both for taking photos and for attending Mass.

An incredible place where you can see the original drawings inside. For those of us who don't go there for religious reasons, it's a key piece in the history of Sonora.

A very beautiful church, currently under restoration so the interior view isn't as pleasant; hopefully it will be beautiful when finished.
