I'm so happy and lucky to worship at St Marks Church and be part of the amazing and expanding church family. We are all being spiritually enriched by Rev Gav and Helen who work so hard for us and who do a great job also with the many outreach programmes in our community.

The power of a music video posted on social media introduced me to St Mark’s Church! I love God, but had struggled to find a church that expressed, reflected and lived many of the values that are important to me: inclusion, non-judgmental, environmentally conscious, helping others and welcoming. I started to view the services from the safety of my home on YouTube. By coincidence I was in the vicinity of the church one day, and decided to walk in to test how I felt. St Marks is beautiful, and intimate and peaceful! That day I met Rev Gav, the pastor at St Mark’s, who is friendly, funny and down-to-earth relatable. Rev Gav, I learned, was also a record producer, and edited the church services that I had come to enjoy on YouTube. Over the weeks, my brief comments on how much I learned or appreciated the services led to a lovely thank you from Rev Gav in messenger, which led to an engaging conversation which included an invitation to visit in person or virtually. Weeks later I felt comfortable enough to join the WhatsApp group and the email group. Occasionally I’ve checked in on the Virtual coffee chat! In order to grow spiritually, I needed to feel comfortable and welcomed. The St Mark’s community embraced me, and I feel absolutely delighted that I found them. Now, I am open to learning more about the awesomeness of God, and see how relevant His message is even today in the 21st Century. I attended my first evening Ash Wednesday service where I was moved to tears with the absolutely beautiful music and prayers. I attended my first Lent Course, which I grew to realise that it was not just a course but a safe space to be vulnerable, for introspection, community building, testimony and fellowship- and the coolest part was that we watched clips from the musical “Hamilton” to explore many of the themes. In the past five months, from my initial private, solo viewings, St Mark’s Church and community have become an integral part of my life, and I can’t find the words to describe the level of joy and peace that this has brought into my life. I was someone who never understood people’s commitment and devotion to a church; but having experienced the love and sincerity of the St Mark’s Community, I too find myself looking forward to the next church event. Many of the hymns we sing are modern so one can actually dance a little with the beat. Rev Gav’s sermons (which is too formal and boring of a word) are fantastic! He gives fascinating historical context which helps with understanding, gives personal and often funny, relatable experiences, and provides a succinct and powerful message of God’s love and our purpose in the world. I have shared some of my personal and traumatic stories with Rev Gav and his wife and team-mate Helen, and they responded with compassion and understanding. They are both easy to talk to. And I haven’t yet mentioned the HIP HOP GOSPEL……!!!! Rev Gav once described the St Mark’s Church community as a diverse bunch of sincere and loving people…. I have experienced this with them. I believe that after decades of searching I have found my church home.
