Just visited for my friends wedding. It really is a beautiful place. It looks small from the outside but the interior is as impressive as any.

A very well preserved church, said to be one of the first constructions in Linares, it is called the church of the 4 centuries (18th, 19th, 20th and 21st) because it has constructions in each of them.

Founded by Franciscans in 1715, the Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Philip, was formerly a mission. Construction began in 1779 when it was the seat of the Archdiocese. The dome was rebuilt in 1805, and the tower was begun in 1853. It has a Latin cross floor plan with a groin vault roof. Stylistically, the façade, clad in quarry stone, could be described as refined Baroque. It is rare to find a façade with a bell gable, a central entrance, and a tower aligned in a single unit. Although the triangular pediment and a certain ornamental restraint bring the façade closer to Neoclassicism, the interplay of recesses and projections at the base of the pediment is Baroque in influence. There is a strong contrast between the façade and the more rustic rear volume, which incorporates vernacular geometric forms. It includes robust buttresses on the sides. In June 2008 the bell tower collapsed; it held four bells which were rescued, but only fragments of the clock remained.

A very beautiful Catholic cathedral; every site has its own charm, but this one in particular is the best in all of Nuevo León. A must-see during your stay in Linares.
