So thankful for the opportunity to worship while out of town🙌 There were so many special things about this The Village Church Denton, from the beautiful worship style , to the powerful sermon from the preacher, to the kindness and friendliness of the volunteers. Love the way they made family worship a priority and had leaders arrive after worship to gather the kiddos and go off to their age appropriate rooms. Love how we stood for the reading of God's Word and the sermon notes they handed out before service. The time spent as a congregation intentionally preparing our heart before hand to recieve the Word. Everyone was so welcoming and we truly felt at home, even if just for a Sunday ❤️

If you like contemporary worship, identify with Baptist traditions, crave emotionally charged sermons, and believe in multiple baptisms you will really enjoy this church. However, if you are looking for a church that is open-minded/open-hearted/no judgement this “may” not be a good fit. I attended for 3 years before pursuing covenant membership. I ended up making the personal decision to withdraw after learning their core values. In a nutshell they believe: elder positions are restricted to men, inner culture is exclusive, and the church is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. During this covenant process I felt alienated and excluded. I was being asked to jump over a series of hurdles in order to become a member. It just didn't feel right. The culture was also materialistic in both Denton and Flower Mound. I’ve grown up in small Methodist churches. Leaving the village brought me to a different village where I found a unified, inclusive church that accepted me with open arms and embraced the believer that I have been. No baptism needed. Matt, please speak gently, with a still small voice so that everyone can hear.

i’ve gone to this church since i was a little kid. i thought it was a welcoming environment until i realized i’m queer. my dad was a deacon, everybody knew us in the church. i was a sweet little church girl. but when i realized i was queer everything changed. my dad went behind my back to talk to the church after i came out to him and my mom and they encouraged him to kick me out and have nothing to do with me. this is not the Love of Christ. this is not unconditional love. if you want a church that truly loves, go to the methodist church off the square. they care. these people don’t.

This place is terrible. I’ve been going to church all of my life, but I stopped going because of all of the rude, ignorant, and arrogant people that surround the culture. I tried to go again, but I left because of the same issue! I attend UNT and do not have a lot of money to be spending on paid parking. I parked here thinking they are a church and they are not in session, and I didn’t realize there was no parking allowed. I walked out to my car to grab my laptop charger so that I could finish my homework on time and saw my car was gone. 188 dollars to get it out of impound. This is absolutely a disgrace to the Denton community. A church, which is not a business according to the Bible, should not be towing broke college students’ cars without any sort of warning or friendly notice. I am just trying to get an education, was running late for class, and parked here without knowing. I want to be productive contribution to society. This is not what a church is supposed to be about, your policies and rules contradict your own faith. What happened to forgiveness, mercy? What would Jesus do? Ask yourself that! A Christian does not get upset if people are using some parking spots at the church. The church was built TO HELP PEOPLE.

I don't go to church there, but I've met a few of the people who do, and they have a great Vibe :-) they also keep a nice open Green space that they allow people from the community to use which is extremely nice of them and greatly appreciated.

Just not comfortable with the motives and direction of this church. Explosive growth has led to lots of variables, loss of controls, and teachings infused with tone that is not appropriate. Matt has a gift at deconstructing the bible, but it's not always what you say...but how you say it. Jesus raised his voice on rare occasions for dramatic effect.

Why would they tow students, who are trying to get an education and be productive in society, parked in "Church Only" spots when church is not even in session? My daughter parked there for two hours on a Tuesday morning 10-12. No, she shouldn't have parked there, but there are no "towing enforcement" signs near those spots. The signs they do have are at the back for specified persons and on the side of the building facing the street. My problem is there is no signs coming through the driveway going into the church or around the parking section itself. It's not very kind for the church to behave this way.

I’m sharing this not to be vindictive but because I don’t want what happened to us to happen to you. This is a warning to those unaware and a plea to the staff and leaders to acknowledge their shortcomings in pastoral care and repent. Sermons are good. Be careful of getting involved with the people. The more involved you get the more likely you will be disappointed unless you somehow get into the "in crowd." This church takes "cliques" and "Mean Girl" behavior to such a level that I had to retain a lawyer. The staff, elders, and deacons will soothe your uneasy mind about any difficult person or thing but do little to nothing to address the actual issue. They think talking to people is enough even if no change occurs. TVCD allows unqualified individuals to lead and then minces words to address concerns. Be careful. The elders will say one thing and allow you to believe whatever you want while defining words slightly differently to get away with poor decisions. In my case, my home-group leader lied to cps (even the cps agent acknowledged the call seemed retaliatory) after I told her to step down from leadership for leaving her husband. Apparently there is no biblical qualification for home-group leaders. The elders all said, “oh that’s terrible,” but not one did anything aside from asking questions from the leaders. One elder said he would merely “suggest that she step down”. She’s still a leader and a lay counselor and a STEPS leader. Apparently I and my husband and one other couple are the only people to ever complain about her so why should they do anything, was what the elder told me. The homegroup leader even admitted in front of an elder and a deacon that she only called CPS because it was me and that if the same thing had happened with someone else she would not have called CPS. And even with the admittance of favoritism, she has been left as a homegroup leader, lay counsellor, STEPS leader, and more. Be very careful if you are getting counseling. How can anyone trust a person that lies? She might lie about you to the law. Why would you want to receive counseling from someone who does not even have their own life in order and submitted to Christ (1 Timothy 3 - the elders mince words about this passage)? She hasn’t apologized but has told others that she knows she shouldn’t have made the false report to CPS. TVCD has a toxic underbelly that cares more about feeling shame than addressing sin. Everyone involved agrees that I and my husband did nothing wrong and yet we are the ones who had to initiate and persist over and over to pursue reconciliation even as the victims. Apparently the elder is “waiting on the Lord” to show him something before taking any action. This happened in February 2018, he found out about it the next month and now it is June. Meanwhile that home-group leader remains in a place of power and honor. In 2017 Beau preached on Justice. Was anyone listening outside of the context of racial reconciliation? In my observation, even the members of our home group have decided to place their own comfort of their mutual friendships over seeking any kind of reciprocity on my behalf, with the exception of one family who has also left the church over this. They have decided that they would validate the leader’s position rather than show us love and support while I stay up crying and losing sleep. Why should they rock the boat when they can continue their lives in peace ignoring what happened? More than the pain inflicted is having to bear the pain in solitude. We have not been members since May 10, 2018. tldr: this church is toxic. beware if you are not a favorite. edit to add that after writing this review I received an apology from the home group leader who is still leading

We've been covenant members of TVC for 3 years. We love it here. We used to attend the Flower Mound campus where Matt Chandler preaches live but moved to the Denton Campus since this is where we live. It took about a month to get used to the services being satellite but we have our own campus pastor, Beau Hughes, and our own worship music so it's great. The church meets on Sunday mornings starting at 9 and then another one at 11:15 followed by a 5:00 service. The church is set up to have home groups which replace Sunday school. My oldest daughter who is 12 has her own home group which meets at our home on Weds, and then the hubby and I have ours on Sunday. The only thing that is semi difficult about TVC is that is can be hard to find your place in it. I think this is something they are working on though. We've recently started with a new home group that seems to fit us well so we are looking forward to finding our niche here.

Sound teaching that is in stark contrast with poor leadership behaviors that trickle down from elders/pastors/staff positions into their homegroups, lay counselors and various other ministries. They seem to place a heavier emphasis than necessary on preparing a good sermon in lieu of their responsibilities to shepherd their flock - this results in a pattern of having the right words to say with no plan or conviction to put any action behind them. Blind leading the blind when it comes to relational issues. Do yourself a favor and just stick to listening to the podcast.

a friend of mine is moving to denton and was looking for a new church to attend. we visited this one together and I was disgusted by the information we were given. the lady we spoke to tried very hard to dance around the subject of lgbt+ rights and treatment in this church, but eventually caved and explained that "those people" would not be allowed as members. they are allowed to attend and, of course, allowed to donate money, but would never be accepted as full members of the church. both my friend and I are gay, and to have this said right to our faces was extremely upsetting. the fact that such a bigoted church is located so close to the UNT college campus is dumbfounding to me. it certainly makes me feel much more unsafe knowing that a building full of homophobic bigots is such a short walk away from where I attend classes. I realize this comes across as harsh, but any person attending this church is complacent in homophobic teachings. I'm posting this review because it's difficult to find information on this aspect of the village church, as they try to hide it to trick more people into attending. they know that the world is starting to realize that lgbt+ people are the same as anyone else, and are scared of losing attendance if more people know that this church views lgbt+ people as lesser humans. this information is very important when picking a new church, and should be more readily accessible.

Exceptional church, exceptional people. Only four stars because I've never been towed.

Wonderful Bible teaching church, although a bit too traditional and formal for us. Service also lasts 1:45, so be prepared for that.

I've only been to this location and I had a great experience. The pastor is great and explained everything very well. I plan on going to the main church in Argyle next week and I believe I will be going there for awhile. Only time will tell.
