Well worth the trip. Lots of history and beautiful art work. Art work was done by WW2 P.O.W. from Italy.

The church was built in 1929. The interior of the church was painted during World War II by Italian prisoners of war (POWs) Franco di Bello, Achille Cattanei, Dino Gambetti, Mario de Cristofara, Leonida Gorlato, Carlo Sanvito, Enrico Zorzi, Adriano Angerilli, and Spinello Aretino, held in the Hereford camp. The story is told by Donald Mace Williams in his book "Italian POW and a Texas Church: The Murals of St. Mary's."
