Stopped here after driving through many, many times. While at the Mary grotto, a gentleman approached us with a framed picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He's been visited with us for a while and then said he had to get to the church for Mass. My husband and I looked at each other and decided we would also attend the service. It ended up just being a Rosary service but was one of the most beautiful rosary services and such a beautiful chapel that we will be stopping by again. Thank you to Clint and his mom for visiting with us afterwards and to the unknown gentleman who approached us, strangers, while we were checking out the beautiful elements outside the church.

When my son was an active duty Marine from 2009 to 2015, I would drive 100 miles to make my little pilgrimages on Wednesdays to the evening Mass during each of his 3 deployments. A novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help was also prayed after the Mass by all the congregation, it was very beautiful. The people were welcoming and kind, the Church was beautiful, and I feel I will forever be grateful to Our Lady of Perpetual Help in her Church on the hill in Windthorst.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church is the heart of Windthorst and a remarkable piece of Texas Catholic history. Founded by German-American Catholic settlers in the early 1890s, the parish has served as the center of faith and community life for well over a century. The church grounds are beautiful and well maintained, and the historical marker tells the story of the families whose faith helped establish both the parish and the town itself. Whether you’re attending Mass, visiting the grotto, or simply exploring local history, St. Mary’s is a peaceful and inspiring place that reflects the deep Catholic heritage of the community. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
