Details
Open Arms Catholic Charismatic Community is a 501-c-3 religious and charitable organization based in El Paso, Texas. Founded in 1972, the community began as a small group of Catholics who had experienced a personal Pentecost and wished to share the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Over the years, the group grew and eventually purchased an old adobe dance hall in 1993, which now serves as their Charismatic Center. Open Arms is part of the global Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement, which began in the United States in 1967 and emphasizes the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
The community is known for its inclusive and welcoming atmosphere, with leadership rooted in Roman Catholic tradition but open to all. Open Arms offers a variety of prayer meetings in both English and Spanish, including weekly gatherings for small groups and the Rosary. These meetings are held Monday mornings and evenings, as well as Tuesday evenings, and are open to anyone seeking spiritual connection and growth.
In addition to prayer and worship, Open Arms is deeply committed to works of mercy. The organization runs a food pantry and outreach programs for the homebound, providing both physical and spiritual support to those in need. Volunteers are always welcome, and the community encourages participation in these ministries as a way to live out the Catholic faith.
The community also sponsors annual Charismatic Conferences and Life in the Spirit Seminars, which are open to the public and designed to deepen participants' spiritual lives. Open Arms has long-term plans to build the Holy Spirit Retreat and Renewal Center on a large property adjacent to their current facility. This center will expand their ability to offer retreats, spiritual guidance, and additional community services.
Newcomers are warmly welcomed and encouraged to attend prayer meetings or reach out through the contact page for more information. The community emphasizes a strong sense of family and fellowship, with many visitors describing the atmosphere as loving and supportive. Open Arms is a place where people can grow in their faith, serve others, and experience the presence of the Holy Spirit in a tangible way.

We visited back in the spring of 2023 as part of a missions trip to the area. The people of Open Arms are truly one of a kind. They truly made us feel like family. We plan on visiting El Paso again just to visit Open Arms and the people there. I don’t know why the other reviewer was speaking bad about the people, but everyone was loving and shining the love of Jesus in that building. We love Open Arms!!

We visited back in April of 2023 and I have never felt, or seen, anything like it. When you walk in, you can truly feel the presence of the Lord. Every person welcomed us and made us feel like family. We were visiting from out of town and I honestly considered moving to TX just to be a part of this community. If you are looking for community, a heavenly family, visit Open Arms.

I am from out of town and visited Open Arms with my ministry team. Open Arms welcomed us just as if we were family! I wish I didn't live so far away. They are a great group of people to fellowship with and praise the Lord!

Coming from a non-religious person these are the unholiest people I’ve ever met. Owner/Director Gloria Williams was incredibly rude and one of their follows was also incredibly rude about a parking spot. Even openly admitted that their “God” allows them to be rude. What a pathetic place. Go to a church that teaches you how to be kind because they clearly don’t understand that concept.
