  “Sweet” is not a word that I would typically think of when describing a location and its qualities, but somehow it is the only word that comes to mind when I think of my church, Living Waters Fellowship. My church is a quaint little place a bit off the beaten path right outside of Quitman, Texas, and it is what I would use to define the word “sweet.” Every part of the experience is sweet in every facet of the word. When I step through the door and am greeted by nice people, I feel the cool air hit my skin. The aura surrounding me is immense in a sort of charming welcome. The warmth I feel when I hug each person I see is the same they feel when they greet me! Nothing beats the feeling of winning hugs that greet me, encourage me, and hearing the promise of food in the near future. Every Sunday morning, I am tempted by fresh aromas of baking pastries, and that sugary scent feels as if it beckons me toward its source, the kitchen. It is there that I get to smell the fresh foods cooking especially for me and all of my fellow “church family.” When it is finally done and ready for consumption, my tongue finally gets to taste the sweetness of fruits, jams, cream cheese, and juices of all kinds. Even now, my mouth can nearly taste the love that goes into the morning treats. Each bite or sip of that meal is the sweetest thing I have ever had, but it is not overpoweringly sweet. The care and quality that went into preparing the food is something that I cannot help but taste! It is the kind of food that is not all that flavorful, but the love cooked into it could never be found in the finest of restaurants. This quality and care that is put into the food is put into the service too! In my church, I can eat, sure, but I can also focus my mind on what is happening there. Each time I am at the church, I find it easy to center my focus on just one thing. I am able to focus on the music I play in those moments, how Christ is moving in the room, and even clear my mind for self-reflection. Self-reflection is not something that is always easy for me to do; the people at my church foster an environment where it feels like I can change for the better and feel supported by those around me. This is not a way everybody may feel in the building, but it is how I can best attribute the sweetness I feel in that place. In this mood where I can focus on the moment, I ground myself in the present by taking moments here and there to listen. I listen to hear people singing His praise, His truth being spoken, and prayers in tongues in His spirit moving through everybody around me. It is not like I hear any true heavenly voices; I hear the works of God in the house like a delightful cacophony. It is clear to see the works of God around me there at the church. I see fellowship; people lifting their hands and submitting to His will. The lights about the sanctuary give the room a cherry on top and add to the charm of the place. Of course, the most delightful thing about the church is getting to see my “church family” there; happy to see me. The sweetest moments of my life have been spent at my church, Living Waters Fellowship, of which I am proud. I love the candied atmosphere, sugary aromas, pleasant tastes, gratifying environment that fosters a focused mindset, delightful sounds, and the charm of its wondrous sights. When asked to describe my church, the best way to describe it is by describing the textures thereof; sweetness in the house of God.
