  I’ve had the pleasure of attending Live Oak Community Church since January 29, 2023, and it has been a blessing ever since. The messages delivered by Pastor Doug Halcomb are powerful and inspiring. His humility and dedication as a servant of God shines through in every word he shares. Some of the highlights of my first service, that resonate still to this day, was the emphasis on building community through small groups. I love how the church encourages everyone to find a group to belong to, fostering connections and support among the body of Christ. The worship experience was uplifting, and I found myself knowing and loving every song with an atmosphere filled with heartfelt devotion. The legacy of faith, particularly highlighted through Hebrews 11:8 about Abraham, resonated deeply with me. It reminded me that faith is not just belief but also obedience and worship. I was moved by the idea of worshiping from a position of humility and the call to action in our faith journeys. The message about saying "yes" to God’s calling, even without knowing the "how," was a profound reminder of trusting in His plan. Pastor Doug's insights about not just following in others' footsteps but seeking our unique path from God were empowering. I have found more and more reasons of why I call Live Oak my home church. The special needs care provided by dedicated volunteers shows the church's commitment to inclusivity for the whole family which allows respite for caretakers to fellowship knowing their loved ones are safe. Live Oak is also passionate about the next generation & having a young son, I have seen that mission field in action. On a weekly basis, students are invested in by Christian leaders that become an extension of their families and resources for changes life brings. Overall, Live Oak Community Church is a place where you can grow in faith, find community, and experience genuine worship. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a welcoming and spiritually enriching environment.

  PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!!!! I attended this church for two years consistently and was transparent and very open with pastor Doug and other elders at this church about my past and my struggles with addiction before I found Christ. I was approached by the college ministry to be a leader for freshman men and pastor Doug knew about my history of addiction (I’ve been sober for 2 years now Thank you Jesus for recovery). I had a full interview and background check completed by college ministry team and I was green lighted to start in the fall. Pastor Doug immediately pulled the plug on my involvement in serving in the college community and stated “I would do better working in a recovery group” I was immediately labeled as an addict and they weren’t able to look past that. Pastor Doug also proceeded to cussed me out in the parking lot of chuys restaurant using the f word multiple times when I called him out on being led by fear and not by the spirit of God. This is a not a church this is a business. A business led by Pharisees. There are lots of better options in Lubbock if you are seeking the Holy Spirit. This was traumatic and absolutely disappointing for so many reasons. I pray they find their way in Jesus mighty name.

  I’ve gone twice and received long speech’s about how I need to give them money. The first time they talked for 15 minutes about how they’re growing and need money, and for someone that goes to church once a week I just want to learn about the lord. The second time was like an episode of richeous gemstones, I hope no one has to sit through a vision Sunday service. They pretty much pitched us for 50 minutes about how we need to give them more money and stuff and incorporated bible quotes to compel us to give them money. It was the most western thing I’ve ever experienced, they were saying they are trying to make 500,000 dollars this year. It left a terrible pit in my stomach and I know I’m never gonna go back again, and I know there’s gotta be people who feel the same.

  Really welcoming, was unsure about this church (I'm an incoming freshman) but something in my gut told me to volunteer here. They have a really good community and everyone seems to know each other (something I'm not used to). Sermons also focus on the full context of the Bible, and don't just cherry pick scripture. 11/10 if I could.

  I absolutely LOVE Live Oak. Everyone is so kind and encouraging. Truly the most connected to Christ I have ever felt in a church community. They offer so many different ways to serve God. I am definitely going to serve and get more involved!!!

  After my first visit years ago, there was no turning back. The atmosphere is just incaptivating and Senior Pastor Doug brings the message in a way that captures your attention and the truth. Live Oak is about connecting Christ to community and it delivers every sermon.

  We really love this church. They have wonderful staff, pastors, teaching, worship, next generation (birth-college) ministries, and small groups.   For 3 years I have called this church home. From the moment I walked in the door I was welcomed and each time I enter, I can feel the true presence of God working through His people. All of the staff and volunteers have a passion for serving.

  Live Oak is a wonderful community of folks that are earnestly seeking to understand and follow God. I was made to feel welcome directly from my first visit. I believe this is a Spirit filled church where the Lord is allowed in and does wonderful work!

  Great lessons, we just never felt a desire to become apart of the community. The meet and greet part way through service is a social nightmare and feels so shallow. But lots of churches do it.
