I recently attended the Lakepointe Church Royse City campus because my kids and I had such a wonderful experience at the Mesquite campus. Since Royse City is much closer to where we live, we were excited to make it our home church. Unfortunately, our experience was very different. This was our second visit, and we were not greeted when we arrived. When I checked my 5-year-old son into the children’s ministry, no one asked his name or seemed to acknowledge him before allowing him into the classroom. While in service, I viewed the classroom cameras and noticed my son sitting alone in a corner. I initially thought he might just need time to warm up, but when I checked again later, the teachers were standing together talking while my son was still sitting by himself without anyone engaging with him. As a parent, that was very concerning and heartbreaking to see. I decided to pick him up early. Ironically, the teachers acknowledged him only as he was leaving. My son also told me that another little boy hit him during class and that the teachers did nothing about it. I understand children have disagreements, but I would have expected the adults supervising the class to notice and respond. One person did greet me before I picked up my son and helped us find seats, which I appreciated. However, overall, I left feeling uncomfortable, and my children felt that way as well. I want to emphasize that this review is not a reflection of Lakepointe as a whole. We absolutely love the Mesquite campus and especially enjoy Pastor Josh’s preaching. Our experiences there have always been welcoming, organized, and caring. I truly hope the Royse City campus can improve the way first-time and returning families are welcomed and how children are cared for in the classrooms, because every child deserves to feel seen, safe, and included.
