  Was loosely affiliated with this church for a time over the summer with a former member and can easily say it was a very uncomfortable environment. A shrinking congregation that has needed to restructure and rebrand itself so many times is a reflection of its own turbulence and talk around the small town about the organization is hard to miss and gets around quickly, especially with the toxic gossip among its own administration. Administration is extremely toxic with rumors of its leadership having borderline violent outbursts. The church claims to pride itself on being in business for 30 + years and advertises itself being open to inclusion and diversity, but, myself being a respected leader with credentials in two Afrocaribean traditions , an author and with my own actual congregation members on both the west and upper and lower east coasts, I began to realize that when you ACTUALLY come from something you carry yourself differently. It needs to be remembered that a tenure doesn’t mean they’re actually good at what they do. Take what you will from that, but this is Google reviews and that is precisely what I’m leaving here. What I will say is that this is definitely not a spirit filled church as it has been described by others and I can say this first hand. There are plenty of better ones around town to choose from if that’s what you’re after. And their only GOOD REVIEWS aren’t by their leaders. If you’re looking for diversity and inclusion, you may or may not find that here. There are friendly faces and some pleasant individuals that I’m grateful to have met. Based on my experiences and the talk of the town, there is a bit of truth in everything and I learned quickly why the church has the reputation it does. That being said, there are plenty of churches around town to choose from. My Exodus from Exodus was a great decision. I wasn’t the first and based on its history, I won’t be the last. When a church like this has people around town rolling their eyes at the name, there is always a reason. These are wannabe spiritual leaders making a name for themselves by affiliating themselves with a much more successful umbrella parent , MCC. Truth works both ways. And unfortunately, when you don’t know how to build culture and function as one big internal click, the “let them” philosophy they live by begins not to apply.

  Exodus is a truly open and affirming congregation. A church for all with a heart for social justice and love for a God who loves us even more. Worship services here are Spirit-filled and meaningful. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from, who you love, how you believe, or your economic status or physical ability, Exodus has open doors for everyone to seek and find their spiritual path. Come join us!

  I have been there for 20 years as a member and as one of their pastors. It is the most open and affirming and most of all loving church for All God’s chuildren in Abilene.
