I was invited to attend this church and wanted to learn more about its leadership before visiting. During my research, I came across Bishop Byron Isaac Mack’s Facebook profile photo and was deeply disappointed by what I saw. As Christians, we are called to be good stewards of God’s creation. Scripture teaches that “The righteous care for the needs of their animals” (Proverbs 12:10), and from the very beginning, God entrusted mankind with the responsibility of caring for His creation, not exploiting it for vanity or luxury. Seeing a church leader publicly wearing fur raised serious concerns for me. The fur industry has long been associated with the killing of animals solely for fashion and status, and I struggle to reconcile that with Christ’s teachings on compassion, humility, and stewardship. While many Christians may differ on this issue, I believe leaders should be especially mindful of the example they set for their congregation. This left me questioning whether the values being modeled by church leadership truly reflect the spirit of the Gospel. If a leader appears comfortable benefiting from practices that many view as cruel and unnecessary, it naturally causes visitors like myself to wonder what other biblical principles may be treated as secondary. I write this not out of hostility, but out of genuine disappointment. As someone seeking a church home, I hope to find leaders whose actions reflect not only the words of Scripture, but also the compassion, humility, and reverence for God’s creation that Christ demonstrated throughout His ministry.
