Details

The UT Tyler Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) is a campus-based Christian organization that seeks to connect students with faith, community, and purpose. The BSM is rooted in the Baptist tradition and focuses on three core areas: Outreach, Discipleship, and Missions. Through these pillars, the BSM helps students grow in their relationship with Christ, serve others, and share the gospel both locally and globally.

The BSM offers a variety of programs and events, including mission trips, retreats, and discipleship groups. These opportunities allow students to build meaningful relationships, deepen their faith, and engage in service. For example, the BSM organizes annual mission trips such as Beach Reach in South Padre Island and Mission Arlington, where students serve in local communities and share the gospel.

The BSM also hosts retreats throughout the year, including a leadership retreat at the start of each semester and a prayer retreat in January. These events provide students with space for reflection, worship, and spiritual growth. Additionally, the BSM offers resources for evangelism and discipleship, including guides like the S.A.L.T. and H.E.A.R. methods for sharing the gospel and studying the Bible.

The BSM facility is a multi-purpose space with a large room for gatherings, small meeting rooms, a kitchen, offices, restrooms, and outdoor areas. This space is used for meetings, events, and community-building activities. Students often mention the welcoming and supportive atmosphere, with many describing the BSM as a place where they feel at home and connected to others who share their faith.

Newcomers are warmly welcomed, and the BSM encourages students to get involved through volunteer opportunities, mission trips, or simply by attending events. Whether you're new to faith or looking to deepen your walk with Christ, the BSM offers a supportive community where you can grow and serve.

I'm an architect and I designed this building for the Baptist Student Ministry here in Tyler 10 years ago. It is a bright and colorful, multi-purpose facility with a large multi-purpose room, small meeting rooms, a kitchen, offices, restrooms and outdoor activity areas. It has been a very successful facility and here are a few of the photographs I have taken of it.

First meeting of the semester was awesome. It was my first time going and I felt like home and everybody there is so nice. We are pretty much a family. Jesus is good news.

I came to BSM almost two years ago as a relatively new Christian just to attend a mission trip over spring break. After attending the mission trip with members of the BSM, I felt like I was at home in this wonderful and loving community. Since this trip, I have grown in ways to share the gospel, forgive, and love others unconditionally. I am grateful for everyone at the BSM for the amount of love and friendship I have been granted through my college career. This community is so amazing and diverse!

I have grown up hearing that college is where you'll break out of your shell and really come into your own, but I know that that would not have happened if I had never gone to the BSM. My experience at the BSM has been life-changing. While growing up in a Christian family and a Christian background, I never really had many good and solid Christian friends. Coming to the BSM got me connected with a great group of people who love the Lord with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength, and has provided for me accountability and encouragement and support in a way that I have never really experienced before. I have learned a lot at the BSM, about myself, the world, God, and what He wants for me as well as what He doesn't want for me. The BSM has become a place for me, lonely, tired, angry, sad, overwhelmed, overjoyed, energetic, happy, or encouraging, to go and be uplifted and met with a smile and a warm greeting Everytime.

I've been coming to BSM now for almost 3 years. It's an amazing community to be a part of. I instantly felt welcomed and that hasn't changed throughout the years. Thank you, Joe, and everyone at the BSM for giving me a loving, nonjudgmental place to love and worship God.

I for one cannot describe in a brief review the amazing things I’ve seen God do in this ministry. I’ve been a believer in Christ for about 4 1/2 years. Last school year and continuing onto this year is when I’ve experienced the most spiritual growth in my walk since becoming a believer. If you’re at all curious about who Jesus is, what Christianity is or if you just need a community of loving friends to hangout with PLEASE come!!!!!!

The people are friendly and the hangout is awesome. I also love the giant jenga set that they have. It is great to go and hangout with friends and just have a nice place that isn't class to relax and have fun. I'm always stopping by to get a cup of free coffee and talk to someone. Say hi to the intern when you go through they are always silly.

I give this place four stars and here’s why. I had some difficulty at first with many from this community. Many judged me unfairly. However, due to many of the fellow students who wanted me to return and give them a second chance. I now see there is an opportunity for forgiveness and reconciliation for past events that now seem very irrelevant. I think everyone who had conflict with me learned something valuable and for that, I forgive each one of them. As long as they can accept me then I have nothing to complain about. God forgives and I forgive.

I have really enjoyed the BSM. It has free dinners during the school semesters on Thursday night at 6. It is a nice place to chill and study especially during finals week.
