  I was told that the women and children shelter is not up and running at all just the women's shelter that are on drugs. I ask to speak with someone else to answers more of my questions but instead I got hung up on. I wish it was someone that was more nicer and respectful on the phone when dealing with the public that's going through a crisis.

  This place is great if you're able to get into the program, it's a very limited and stricter program than other shelters. They will allow you to stay in their emergency beds for up to three weeks and three months. The first night of staying here I got wrote up for not turning in my phone. They allow you to get two write ups and after two write ups they are supposed to put you out regardless of your situation. Luckily I've been at this shelter for seven months and I was able to find a job during this time. Today is now February 14, 2025 and I am now currently looking for another place to stay. The program director Iris Wade told me that she was disappointed in me because she feels that I have been in non compliance with the rules of this program and that I always have excuses and that she has done all that she could do, otherwise she would have let me stay a little longer because of my circumstances. I can admit that I received more than one write up and all of the write ups were small situations like (not turning in your phone eating a snack having outside food and drinks having wrinkles in your bed and not getting out of the bed in time after the wake up time at 6 am) Lights go out at ten and you are required to get up and out of the bed by 6:05 no matter what you've done that previous day or what kind of medicine you take (you will get wrote up) (& Let's not mention the arguments between all of the ladies and smart ellect responses and pettiness) All in all I did not receive help to find housing like I thought that I would. (Which was one of the main reasons of wanting to be in this program) I am very disappointed on how my stay is ending. I had high hopes that I would be okay prior to entering the single women's program. My valentine's day and weekend is not so happy but thanks Salvation Army for your help thus far with a place to temporarily stay.

  I want to emphasize that The Salvation Army does not provide housing assistance. Unfortunately, the disrespectful and condescending manner in which they communicate with individuals seeking help is disheartening. They treat The Salvation Army like a detention center. The staff talks in a degrading manner, making individuals feel less than human. They also expect individuals to pay rent, which contradicts the purpose of providing salvation and helping people in need. The staff up here is not proactive, and I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Action needs to be taken to either improve the staff's attitude or to bring in new, helpful people. Ms. Dorothy Ford should be let go because she always sides with her staff, even when they are wrong. It feels like our opinions are not considered here. They unjustly write us up for trivial reasons simply because they can. Even after dinner at 5, women and children are left feeling hungry. The infestation of roaches and spiders is being ignored. The walls in the rooms are in a deplorable condition with mold and dirt coming out of the vents. Despite the presence of COVID-19 in the building, they failed to inform us about it, neglecting our health and the well-being of the kids. This is unacceptable is unfair that they only help those they want to help. This is not right at all.

  The Salvation Army is probably a better fit for women with children than the single woman residents. Since being here I have been mentally tortured by people who seem to have a hidden agenda when it comes to me. I do not know them nor have I been comfortable enough to open up and tell my story. Your better off somewhere else. This is just my opinion.

  We had a donation pickup scheduled yesterday at my parents' house. They are elderly and closing on their house next week so they hae to have everything out. Well, of course they got there late and claimed that the truck was too full to take all of their furniture and donations out of the house and they had to schedule another pickup time with them. I'm not buying it. At the end of the day I think they were just too lazy to do the entire pickup. They should have come back and picked up what they didn't get the first time without having to schedule another time with pick it up. So now my dad has to change the closing date on his house. I definitely would not donate to them again. They claim to help the elderly, but for us, they just caused a lot more stress.

  I love love!the salvatin army. They have a shelter for single women and children, they help u get back on your feet if u need a place to stay and they have resources to get u back up and going, they help for women that been thru domestic violence and the also have a program to to help some people to get off drugs if needed Mrs iris is a great person to work with she very compassionate and caring, she's a sweetheart ❤️

  This place is what yu make it .. if u don’t have no type of car or money u will starve if u don’t ask for noodles .. this place is horrible wake u up early for breakfast at 5:30 in the morning.. the staff is rude bullies sometimes!! U got curfew real early.. if you not from the area I advise you not to go there 696 Jackson ave.. the case manager take they time process information.. u not farmilia with the area don’t go there.. they will put u out by writing u up everything u do.. ms.Judy gives false information an no one is over ms Dorothy .. people that’s from out of town will get bullied an u will be hungry if u don’t eat breakfast .. the milk spoil sometimes.. I stayed there for a month ..finally made it out an got my place

  This place is a joke they get out every year and beg the public and business for their hard earned dollars and don't do darn thing about helping people like they should. Trust me when I say this I've lived the experience.

  I make Deliverance to this place once a month the staff is great and the place is very secure and clean. My orange mound Chess club make donations of food and cleaning products every month.

  It provides shelter but other than that I wouldn't want to go back some of those staff act like they on their high horse and then want to use my Mental Ilness against me asking me did I take my medicine just because I have Depression and Anxiety doesn't mean I don't know when someone someone treating me some type of way

  Where do you start all I can say it's a poor place to even say they expect homeless people to pay 6$ after they give you 4 free nights after that you got to pay up or get out money Gruber's that's what I got to say. Plus you got to shower with 4 guys starting at you come on.
