Summary

The Knoxville Tennessee Temple is a planned temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, announced on April 3, 2022, and groundbreaking on January 27, 2024. Located in the suburb of Farragut, Tennessee, it will be the third temple in the state, serving the growing Latter-day Saint community in East Tennessee.

Details

The Knoxville Tennessee Temple is a planned house of worship for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Announced on April 3, 2022, during the April 2022 general conference, it is set to be the third temple in Tennessee, following the temples in Nashville and Memphis. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on January 27, 2024, with Elder Shayne M. Bowen presiding over the event.

The temple will be a single-story building covering approximately 30,000 square feet on a 4.99-acre site in the Knoxville suburb of Farragut. Architectural renderings show a grayish-white exterior with rectangular windows and a domed, golden-hued cupola with a spire atop a golden orb. The grounds will feature trees, flower gardens, and shrubs, creating a peaceful and sacred environment.

Once completed, the temple will provide a place for members to perform sacred ordinances and feel closer to God. An Open House period is planned for the general public to tour the temple before its dedication. The temple is expected to bless the community of East Tennessee, offering a place where individuals can feel the presence of the Savior and receive spiritual strength.

The temple is part of a broader effort by Church President Russell M. Nelson to expand temple access for members around the world. It is anticipated to open for public tours in the summer or fall of 2026, as mentioned in visitor reviews.

I'm so excited for this House of the Lord to be built in my hometown!! A place where heaven and earth meet - where we can feel closer to God and receive sacred ordinances to bless ourselves and our family members eternally. I feel the love of my Savior Jesus Christ as I visit His holy house and leave wanting to share that love and kindness with everyone else. This temple will only serve to bless the great people of East Tennessee and help them feel closer to their Savior as they come to the public open house and see this beautiful structure in their community.
