This ancient church sits alone on the windswept plains of northeastern South Dakota where the sky is bigger and bluer than I’ve ever seen. I happened upon it while driving county roads some three years ago while on a road trip from Illinois. Though the building is long retired from use, the spiritual energy here is palpable. I have contemplated returning to this venerable place of worship to once again feel fully immersed in God’s presence. Though not a tourist attraction at all, it has been and continues to be the most memorable spot I have found in all my travels.

I've kept an eye on this lovely church for nearly 20 years. Slowly, and surely it us becoming vandalized. Darn sad. I wish that passersby held more dignity for the building as there is still obviously community residue within the walls. Please be kind to this beautiful old space.
