This church has deep-rooted leadership issues. The pastor, Greg, tends to lead with a controlling, authoritarian style—more like a dictator than a servant leader. He often disregards input from other leaders and instead surrounds himself with people he can easily manipulate. Many who were once close to the heart of this church—founding members and long-time leaders—have left, even starting another Calvary Chapel in town. Ask yourself: why do so many people keep leaving? There’s also a concerning culture around volunteering. Guilt-driven language like “Why wouldn’t you serve the Lord?” is used to pressure people into service. Once you’re in, the gratitude fades and you're left with constant demands. Serving should be a joy, not a burden—and certainly not something you’re “voluntold” to do. It’s a shame, because Greg is intelligent, (cunning) and somewhat capable, and the messages he delivers can be meaningful. But true leadership requires humility, accountability, and a willingness to serve—not for personal gain. Sadly, Greg does not even follow what he teaches. I hope the church takes a hard look at these patterns and chooses a healthier path forward. A healthy church grows organically. This one remains stagnant—with only one paid staff & that is the pastor himself, no janitor, no bookkeeper, and no assistant or children’s ministry pastors. That alone says a lot.

I have been attending Calvary Chapel since 2017. Never in my life have I attended a church that encouraged me to dust off my Bible open it and study God’s word. Pastor Greg has always been welcoming to my family and I. He always told me he wants people who need Jesus that this church is open to everyone regardless of race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. Calvary Chapel is where my husband and I got married and this church is where I got saved. I also got baptized by Pastor Greg. Why did I give Calvary Chapel 4 stars instead of 5? Because no church is perfect. There WAS some leaders that if you were not apart of their, “holy huddle”, you were invisible. They eventually left the Calvary Chapel. I felt no more, ”I was not worthy even to be in church”. Today, I belong here and you do too. This church is my home church and Pastor Greg has become my brother. I will always be grateful to Pastor Greg for walking into my nephew’s darkness of suicide and pulling him back into the light of Jesus. To me this is THE TRUE CALVARY CHAPEL OF RAPID CITY, SD. ❤️🙂 For those that want to say bad things about my beloved church Matthew 5:38-39. Luke 8:17. “for nothing is secret that will not be revealed nor anything hidden that will not be known and come too light.” One more additional comment, leadership potential is not determined by the length of time someone has been a Christian. If your looking for away out of the darkness this world can put us in, if you feel broken, you feel you can't go on but you want to be free from the chains of sin I invite you to My home church and meet my brother Pastor Greg. Jesus is knocking at your heart. You are not alone.

Creepy leadership structures. Way too many leaders & volunteers keep leaving. I just scrolled to see the review. 8 months ago the 5 stars review by JP Walters, he is one of the two leaders I met . And his family quit going now. Each time I come back there are new people . Youth ministry leaders quit too. When asking them they refuse to talk about it . That got me skeptical, what is going on with this place with that high turnover.

It is an amazing church where the teaching is verse by verse through the Bible, worship focuses of God who loves them. The children's church takes place in the children's wing, right along side during the sanctuary. They have their own radio station to reach out to the community. 98.3 on the FM station. The people are friendly and truly love one another. They have a thriving Awana program on Wednesday night, with a meal served at 5:30 with a service starting at 6:30 followed by small group discussion to follow. They meet every Saturday night 6:30-7:30 for prayer. The ladies have their monthly brunch the 1st Saturday of month 9am. The Men have their breakfast the 3rd Saturday of the month 8:30. We have grown more here than any other church.

I have been going to this church for almost 15 and a half years. This place is more than a building, where people come to worship. This is where family and friends come together to learn, build relationships, and to worship. At Calvary Chapel we are more of a family then anything else. We help each other, pray for each other, and will always be there for anyone.

It seems like a good place that teaches the Word of God. But telling mean jokes about cats most every time I watched online detracts from what the Holy Spirit wants to do. I have a good sense of humor, but those jokes are not funny about one of God's loving creations. So he doesn't like kitties. Does he have to make those who do feel bad? Please consider others before saying offensive things, and concentrate on edification. Shalom P.S. This issue was from 1 yr ago while I was shopping for a church home when I move to RC. Hopefully it is an issue no longer. My pets are gifts from God to comfort me. They give so much more than I could ever give back. Thank you.

Calvary chapel church teaches God's Word in a practical and applicable way. The folks attending are a loving group that immediately make you feel like your part of their family. I've found a home there that I love.

The family (brothers and sisters) are loving, accepting, and encouraging. The teaching style is expository, and challenging. The music is up-beat, and the facility is comfortable and inviting. The motto on the bulletin reads, "knowing Jesus, and making Him known."

We have been attending this church for over 7 years! Pastor, Greg Blanc and the people that attend this church have become our church family! Pastor, Greg Blanc teaches the full counsel of God and without any religious doctorine, which is my preference. Thank you Pastor, Greg Blanc for the many years of speaking the biblical truth!

I 100% agree with several of the low-rated comments — this church is weird, and those commenters used the exact verbiage I wanted to use. SPOT ON !
