My experience at St. George Church of God was deeply disappointing. One of the biggest concerns I had was the emphasis in marriage counseling on wives respecting their husbands, with the clear impression that a husband’s love is dependent on whether his wife first demonstrates respect. I left feeling that the focus was disproportionately placed on a wife’s responsibility rather than on mutual love, respect, accountability, and biblical partnership within marriage. Even more concerning was my experience with confidentiality. My husband and I met with both the pastor and assistant pastor together and individually to discuss very personal and private matters, trusting that those conversations would remain confidential. Instead, I later became aware that information I had shared in confidence had become known and discussed among other church members. Based on what I experienced and the information that was repeated back to me, I no longer felt that my privacy had been respected. Trust is essential in pastoral counseling. When someone seeks guidance during difficult seasons, they should be able to do so without fearing that deeply personal matters will become the subject of discussion within the congregation. For those considering this church, I would encourage you to carefully consider whether its counseling approach and handling of confidential matters align with your expectations before sharing sensitive personal information
