Oaktown Church

I am not a member, but Oaktown is not a very good neighbor. I live in the area. Due to the high gas prices, I started walking to Food Lion several times a week. My wife and I have cut through the campus several times. Never having caused any problems or even interacting with anyone, until recently. As I entered the front gate with a back pack full of groceries, I was aggressively approached by the landscape crew who made it very clear that I was not going to be able to cut through. I respected their assertive orders and have avoided the campus altogether. However, how did they know I didn't have business with the church? I could have been a parent or just someone looking to join the church. I am not a "spiritual person", but I do remember from my CCD classes as a child that Jesus never turned anyone away.

I attended Cathedral of Praise or “Oakbrook Church is there new name it says “ for a short period of time and initially enjoyed it, especially because of its convenient location. The teachings were solid, and I appreciated that aspect of the church. However, my experience during Growth Track and table placement left me feeling uncomfortable. My table facilitator, Sherri, was kind, but the overall group dynamic didn’t feel welcoming. As a single person, I was placed at a table with mostly married individuals, while I noticed there were other tables with singles or smaller groups that may have been a better fit. At times, when I shared, I felt overlooked or not affirmed in the same way others were. There was also a moment where I felt unintentionally excluded during affirmations of the toy activity to tell about your spiritual place you feel your at which contributed to a sense of not belonging. Additionally, I had a small but uncomfortable interaction in the worship center where I was looking for my pen, and someone reacted in a way that made me feel misjudged. Overall, while I do believe the church has strong teaching and positive elements, my personal experience with connection and community wasn’t the best fit for me. I have since found a church home where I feel more comfortable and welcomed.

A place of worship that is truly welcoming to all. You can come in your Sunday best or comfy cozy sweats with no judgement. Also the amount of teen engagement is amazing to see. It's a place that just feels like home. Highly recommend

This church and the leadership are caring and give you hope. They’re very welcoming and absolutely about helping others every chance they get. I personally never wanted to be apart of a church until i came here and i don’t plan on leaving.

I went to this church for 15years and this year I left. Why? Because I couldn’t sit here and be ignored because I wasn’t apart of the inner circle. Not one time in the Bible does it say the church is a group of rich people with mansions and the newest cars out . But that’s exactly what this church is. When I had depression and seemed refugee in the church I was told I just had a lack of faith. Millions of dollars spent on the appearance of the church but not spent on helping those in need. Youth groups here are also a big joke. If you ever want to be isolated and feel left out go right ahead to fuel every Wednesday. Nothing good comes from a church of greed.

I had this privilege to attend the Cathedral church with my friend Chip, which was a privilege again to meet with some cool people inside the Cathedral. I was overjoyed and touched with the presentation of some beautiful stories and songs the crew members of church sang on that day. Loved it ! I met with the pastor and had few talks. Pastor was so kind and is a noble person sharing his time sharing the history of the Church. I would like to thank my friend Chip and Peggy for giving me the opportunity to visit Cathedral church and create some everlasting memories. Beautiful Church, Warm and friendly atmosphere❤️

I was looking for a church to attend regularly for about 6 years. Someone recommended Cathedral of Praise to me. From the moment I walked through those doors, I felt so welcomed. Everybody was so friendly and offered to show me where I needed to go with my children. I still remember Pastor Dave speaking with me by the Kids check-in. He was down to earth and personable, I didn’t even know he was a pastor until weeks later. Coming into the church and listening to worship and the sermon, I knew this was my new home! I’ve been going to Cathedral for just over two years now, and I couldn’t imagine my family and I going anywhere else. All of the Pastors are amazing. The teams are so friendly. This is the only church my kids know, and I’m so happy that they enjoy coming and always ask during the week when they’re going back. Cathedral has helped me grow my faith, develop my relationship with God, helped me in my time of need and I will never be more thankful. BEST CHURCH EVER!

Welcome home! Several years ago, We came with our 2 kids to visit this church. Now our kids, their kids, in-laws, cousins and more are also members here. We’re now at 2 generations coming up through the children’s and teens ministries. We know they teach Jesus and biblical principles at every age level. It truly is a place where the whole family can experience God’s presence, grace and love.

Went for a few years, my mom was an adamant tither to it, asked to see where her money was going and they wouldnt tell her. After my sister said she needed to step down from her serving positions she was verbally attacked and told to shut up. Then the entire church gossiped about me and my family since we left it as a whole and it feels unsafe to be at. The female pastors never meet up to talk unless you’re in high positions, the messages never go deeper than a salvation message, and the youth group is more of a show than a group of teens growing together. They boast about helping the community but when we were struggling with eviction notices and begged for help multiple times they said they couldn’t help us with a pat on the shoulder after buying chic fil a for the whole congregation. If you don’t sit front row, you’re just another salvation tally for them to boast about. If you don’t wholeheartedly follow the pastors without a question you’re genuinely shunned out from the community and all talk about it is snuffed out. Do not go here, it is not a church, its a cult.

Welcoming atmosphere. Warm and friendly. Kids ministry had a lot of excitement. Great praise and worship! Message was encouraging for everyday life and well rooted in the bible. Very diverse congregation. Highly recommend it for the whole family.
