Details
Columbia Evangelical Church exists to glorify God as a family of redeemed sinners, shaped by the gospel of Jesus Christ and committed to making it known to neighbors and the nations. The church was founded in 1950 as Gospel Fellowship Church and adopted its current name in 1961 after purchasing a historic home on Pendleton Street. In 1966, the congregation constructed a sanctuary on adjacent property facing Barnwell Street, and in 1987, it acquired an additional historic building next door. These properties continue to serve as the home of the church.
The church is grounded in Reformed theology and believes that God saves sinners by His grace alone through Christ. The good news of Jesus Christ stands at the center of all we believe and do, shaping our preaching, worship, fellowship, and mission as we seek to live as a people who belong to Him. Having been a member of CE for over 50 years, I can confidently say this church has been a strong theological foundation and guiding force throughout my life. The biblical teachings remain steadfast and true, and the leadership exemplifies love, compassion, and genuine care for the congregation. My fellow members—my brothers and sisters in Christ—have become some of my closest friends. CE has always been, and continues to be, a welcoming and uplifting place for both longtime members and new attendees alike. If you’re seeking a church that fosters faith, community, and spiritual growth, this is a place where you will feel right at home.

The church has provided space for weekly meetings and meals to international students for decades. They are to be commended for it. Here is a shout-out to the International Friendship Ministry, which has organized the meetings.
