Details
The Los Alamos Jewish Center (LAJC) is a small, unaffiliated, egalitarian congregation that serves Jews from a variety of backgrounds and traditions. Located at 2400 Canyon Road in Los Alamos, the LAJC is a vibrant community that offers weekly Friday night Shabbat services at 5:30pm (with the exception of the second Friday, when services begin at 7pm), biweekly Saturday morning Torah services, and monthly community Shabbat dinners. These services are often led by knowledgeable lay-leaders in the community, with support from Rabbi Jack Shlachter, who also serves as rabbi at HaMakom in Santa Fe.
The LAJC is known for its inclusive and welcoming environment, embracing interfaith families and newcomers to Jewish practices. The congregation encourages active participation in all aspects of worship, from readings to leading prayers to reading from the Torah. The Conservative Movement's Lev Shalem Shabbat prayerbook is used for services, and the community is open to all, with no tickets required for High Holidays.
In addition to regular services, the LAJC offers a range of programs and events, including religious school for children, Tot Shabbat for young families, and community dinners. The congregation also provides opportunities for adult learning and social gatherings. For more information on membership or to get involved, contact the Membership Chair or President via the contact page.
